Identification and Diagnostics
Occurrence,
Localities and Origins: In most cases it is a product of the interaction of arsenic and sulfur vapors. occurring usually with orpiment. Found associated with lead silver ores in Hungary, Bohemia, Saxony, etc. Found in good crystals at Nagyag, Romania; Binnenthal, Switzerland; Allchar, Macedonia. Occurs in Iron County, Utah. Occurs in veins associated with antimony ores, as at Kapnik in Romania, Kurdistan in Asiatic Turkey, etc. It also occurs as a deposit from some hot springs, as at Steamboat Springs, Nevada, deposited from the geyser waters in Yellowstone Park, and as a sublimate from volcanoes at Naples, etc. Together with orpiment, it is associated with a number of the sediment hosted gold ores of Nevada.
