Gold Nugget Prospecting In California | |
I grew up in southern California, and later moved to Reno, near enough that it is only a short drive to the rich placers of the famous Mother lode country in the northern part of the state. I have spent many enjoyable hours kicking around the hills of California prospecting for nugget gold, and making some nice finds from time to time. Historically, California has produced vast amounts of gold from mining districts located all over and there is still plenty left to be found in both the mountains of the north and the deserts of the south. I have put together this page to give other prospectors some ideas and information on where they might start their hunt. Gold just does not occur randomly here and there spread over everywhere, so before one can find gold, you have to know where to look as it is concentrated only in certain areas. While these pages may be enough info to get you started, further details on mining claims and land status in the California goldfields can be obtained from the regional office of the BLM, in Sacramento, or through the internet at the BLM's LR2000 website. Click on the highlighted topic links below to access the gold district information I have assembled for you to review. Good luck in your prospecting and may you find that big nugget that's out there waiting for you! |
